The shoot…

Today was the London shoot and we got all the filming that we needed done and very quickly too which is excellent and this means that we can get started on editing the material that we have and then focus on our other shoots. We encountered several challenges today, which included timing of the shots, carrying the camera equipment from place to place and also location, we had to change the location for a small bit of the music video but this change of location enhanced the mood and atmosphere that we are trying to create.

The equipment that we used was the video camera, Jib, stills camera, the dolly, the tripod, charger and steady cam. We also used a variety of camera shots including long shots, mid shots, low shots, closeups and high angle shots. The equipment was very helpful when shooting from different angles such as when we wanted moving shots we would either use the tripod and dolly if we didn't want a moving shot and the steady cam when we wanted a moving shot.  The jib was very helpful when we wanted a high angle shot because this is a crucial shot and moment in the music video and we would of been unable to have a high angle shot without the jib. Some shots didn't require any other equipment such as the point of view shot we just used the video camera this is good because it shows the audience what the character is seeing.

Overall the day went very well, we finished filming in London and we can now start editing the material. Here are some location shots below.

The first shoot…

We have decided that the first shoot of our music video will be on the 28Th November and we will be filming in London at several different locations including London Bridge and Moorgate. We decided to do all of the filming we need in London first because this will be the hardest shoot because of the camera, equipment and scheduling.  We will all be meeting (including our model Katharine) before 10:00am to get the 10:10am train to London Bridge and we expect to be filming until 2:00pm.

Shot list

Here is the shotlist of the different types of shots that we want to use and what scenes and times we want to have them in.

Storyboard

Before we can start filming we have to create a stroyboard detailing the scenes in the music video.

Sunday 20 November 2011

Narrative

For the music video we need a narrative and it has to fit the mood of the the song, Set fire to the rain is a very emotional song it portrays heart break and loss. What we want to achieve with the music video is to get the audience who may have suffered heart break to be able to relate to the song and video.

The narrative is our main model Katharine living on the streets and she is helped by a stranger and they start a relationship but as the music video progresses they break up and Katharine remebers what life used to be like with her boyfriend through a series of flashbacks. This narrative will show the mood of the song and the emotion behind it.

Location

In our music video we need several different locations, because the song is quite sombre and emotional and about heart break, we need a certain type of setting. So we will use the back streets of London for part of the video because they are quite dark and will fit the mood and story narrative of the music video quite well. We will also use London bridge as a minor location for a few shots.

Our second location will be at my house because there will be certain flashbacks during the music video that will show Katharine (our main model) remembering what her life with her ex was like so we need a house.

The third and last main location is the studio becasue we will have Katharine singing like she is in a club to an audience for this we will need to transform the studio to make it look like a club. We will cover the windows and mirrrors and have a smoke machine for the club effect and we will not use any camera shots of the ground so it will not show the dance floor.

The Pitch…

Before we could go out and do any filming we first had to present a pitch to our teachers to get our ideas approved. We included the song we were doing, the artist and album background, what genre of music it is, our ideas for filming, locations and dates and deadlines. We also said our reasons for choosing that song and our filming schedule.

To watch the pitch please view the video below.
